AWARDS & PRIZES

Vierte Welle Film Festival is non-competitive. Selected filmmakers will not receive physical or monetary awards. Instead, VWFF offers:

  • A curated space for screening and discussion
  • Visibility for the selected works and creators on the festival’s social media platforms
  • Opportunities for dialogue and networking within a queer and feminist framework.

Rules & Terms

1. EVENT GOALS

Vierte Welle Film Festival (VWFF) is a safe space for Queer and FLINTA+ artists from around the world who wish to showcase their fiction, documentary, and/or experimental short films in Germany.
All films must include English subtitles in order to reach an international audience.

2. PARTICIPATION AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Submitted short films must meet the following requirements:

a) Short films with a maximum duration of 20 minutes will be accepted.
b) The genre may vary and can include documentary, fiction, experimental, animation, music video, video poetry, among others, as long as it fits within the festival’s curatorial framework.
c) The director and/or at least 50% of the crew must be Queer or FLINTA+.
d) By submitting, applicants grant the festival organizers the right to use up to 2-minute excerpts of the film for non-profit promotional purposes, including television, social media, and other media channels, during the festival and related events.
e) Copyright always remains with the authors/directors and/or producers.

3. MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

During the initial phase, applicants must submit:

  • A completed registration form filled out by the copyright holder.
  • A digital viewing copy via a link (Vimeo, YouTube, etc.)
  • If the link is private, the password must be provided.

The curatorial team will use this link exclusively for the selection process.
If the film is selected, the organizing team will request:

  • An original screening copy of the short film.
  • English subtitles (even if the original language is English).
  • Press materials, including photographs and social media information for promotional use.

4. SELECTION PROCESS

The authors of the selected works will be notified well in advance in order to allow sufficient time to submit the screening copy in the appropriate exhibition format.

5. SUBTITLES

All selected short films must include English subtitles, regardless of the original language.
Subtitles must be provided by the applicants.

6. FEES, SHIPMENTS, AND RETURNS

  • The submission fee is 5 euros, unless waived by using the code provided on the FilmFreeway webpage.
  • Applicants are responsible for any costs related to sending screening copies or additional materials.
  • The festival will not accept films that incur fees, taxes, or additional charges.
  • Screening copies will only be returned upon explicit written request, specifying the return address and date.
  • Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the participant.
  • VWFF assumes no liability for damage to screening materials.
  • The festival does not pay screening fees or copyright fees.

7. PRESS AND PROMOTION

Directors and producers agree to actively share and promote the festival through their social media channels.
Selected films may also be used in future VWFF events for promotional purposes.

8. SCREENING FEES

VWFF does not provide any monetary compensation for film screenings or copyright usage.

9. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

Submission to the Vierte Welle Film Festival implies full knowledge and acceptance of these rules and conditions.
Any exceptions, questions, or conflicts will be evaluated and resolved by the festival organizers.
